Webanacoluthon Kemp, 1918, from Hong Kong resembles that of Sinolapotamon, but Ng & Dudgeon (1992) established Cryptopotamon for the species, emphasizing differences in characters of the carapace and the male first gonopod. Dai (1999) regarded Cryptopotamon as a junior synonym of Sinolapotamon, but Ng (2000) and Ng et al. (2008) resurrected it.
